A really well-done piece of health media from the NYT.
From the page:
"Changes in our health are inevitable as we get older. But while doctors tell us to focus on the basics -- eat right, exercise and keep cholesterol and blood pressure in check-- is there more that we need to know about staying well as we age?
In this special section, you'll be able to learn the best that science and medicine can offer for taking care of yourself. You can also test your knowledge and read more health news at the Well blog."

From ABC News...basically artificial sweeteners confuse the body, training metabolism to not fire up after a meal, thereby making it harder for you to burn off the calories you did consume.

This program works. (You do not need to buy the book--the essential stuff is at this link.)
It can't be called a "diet" because you do not eat less. You eat better (real foods) and smaller meals, but more often. For me eating more real food--and not less of it--I have lost 10 pounds over the past 8 months, without really exercising. This food includes fruit, lean meat, veggies, raw nuts, whole grain cereal and breads. By loading up on as much of this as you want, you crowd out the donuts, candy, pasta, pizza, chips, fried food, etc.
Two other things: do not try to lose more than a pound a month (for a typical guy, this means cutting current calorie intake by 200 calories a day, i.e., one donut). Also, cut out regular soda, fruit juice, and sugar drinks (I love beer, so that is not negotiable.)
